What’s with the Tagline?

We have:

Nobody has really asked, how did you come up with the tagline, “One part scavenger hunt, one part party; mix in bargains, serve Bernal style”?  But if they did, we’d probably come up with a response like this:

This tagline was inspired from a quote we found on yelp from Mr Christopher Scott C,an enthusiastic patron of Hillwide2011 – an event that shall live for eternity documented on the internet.  He said:

Explore Bernal Heights’ riches culturally and get your shopping on. Or if you live here, meet your neighbors, shop for all kinds of amazing stuff and buy from cool people. The Hill Wide Garage sale is part scavenger hunt and part party, but it’s mostly just unique. This neighborhood is the perfect place for this kind of thing. If you attend only a few of the streets you’ll be pleasantly surprised. It’s a must see for any vintage or garage sale fan.

That brings a tear to my eye every time I read it while sipping from my giant multi-colored, etched and bedazzled martini glass.

Here are some of the taglines that didn’t make the cut (cue groans and guffahs):

  • Hillwide:  More than a Yard sale; a Hillwide Sale
  • Hillwide:  Your Junk in a Box
  • Hillwide:  The Tallest Yard Sale
  • Hillwide:  Economic Self-Recovery Sale
  • Hillwide:  Hyper-Local Stuff Sharing

I’m sure you’ll agree that none of these seemed as emotionally compelling as a recycled fanboy quote.  Although we had a lot of fun sketching out the poster for the Junk in the Box idea.

Now who’s selling those martini glasses this year?  I need another one!

And don’t forget to donate!
