Lo will have her garage open on August 10th at 224 Virginia. This is definitely not her first Hillwide and she has lots of garage sale wisdom to share.
What do you love most about Hillwide that keeps you coming back?
it’s about COMMUNITY. it’s a vibrant ONE-DAY MARKETPLACE where we get to see a lot of people from all over town in addition seeing many of our immediate neighbors. it’s a time to talk about the beauties and the beasts of our dear city, to talk politics, to talk about books and weather and plans for the future. just like any marketplace, a whole lot more than just GOODS get exchanged when people open their homes and pour themselves out onto the street!
What’s your top tip for other garage owners who are registered for Hillwide this year?
use the sale as an OPPORTUNITY to do an honest review of your physical empire. ask yourself whether objects you share your space with are useful, energizing, or full of sweet sentimentality. if they have NONE of the previous values, consider whether it’s time to allow the objects to “move on” and let someone else love them! it’s hard to stay SPARE in our commodified culture but HILLWIDE provides an amazing motivation and goal!
Aside of visiting YOUR garage, what’s your TOP TIP for Treasures Seekers coming to this year’s Hillwide?
enjoy the PROCESS! you may have some specific thing or things you’re looking for and the stalking, the hunt, is very invigorating. but stay curious about what ELSE is out there because… TREASURES HAPPEN! invite a friend or a group of friends or everyone you know to roam the hill with you. it can be like a sporting event, cheering others on in the consideration or acquisition of useful, whimsical, or beautiful (could be all of the aforementioned) THINGS!
